I’ve played every FIFA game from FIFA 09 to FIFA 23, and I can confidently say that FIFA 24 by EA Sports is the worst football game I’ve ever experienced. In terms of gameplay, CPU quality, and overall experience, it’s a massive disappointment. It feels like EA didn’t put the care or attention that was needed into this release, and as a result, I regret purchasing it.
The game has serious issues with optimization on PC, and it’s clear the developers didn’t take PC players into account. The constant FPS drops during menus, replays, and cutscenes are infuriating. I’ve tried various fixes—V-Sync, Radeon Anti-Lag, NVIDIA Reflex—but nothing works. The glitches and bugs in the game are everywhere: defenders lose the ball right after tackling, players don’t react to the ball even when it’s an inch away, and goalkeepers seem to act like ghosts. This lack of attention to detail is unacceptable.
One of my biggest concerns is the health aspect of playing this game. It might sound extreme, but the way the game forces players into rigid, scripted gameplay makes me wonder about its effects on mental health. Spending hours in an environment that’s not only frustrating but broken could lead to real stress, and I’m worried that long-term exposure to these poorly developed systems could have even more serious health implications. Maybe not brain cancer like I half-jokingly thought, but certainly increased stress and anxiety.
As for the modes, Ultimate Team (UT) is an utter failure in my eyes. The game seems to be designed solely for pack openings, and frankly, I have no interest in that. The community’s input is clearly ignored, and the AI is so scripted that it forces everyone to play the same, toxic way—spamming cutbacks and slowing down opponents. The inclusion of women in UT feels like a missed opportunity; instead of creating separate women’s and men’s teams, EA has mashed everything together, which ruins the authenticity of both.
The only somewhat playable mode is Volta, but even there, the overpowered goalkeepers ruin the experience. Career Mode, which I mostly play, has its share of problems too. EA released the game without basic features like walk-outs, anthems, and formation intros. I’ve also encountered bizarre bugs, such as opponents becoming invisible or AI players moving like they’re stuck in quicksand. The whole experience feels rushed and unfinished.
Then, there’s the scripting. It’s not just in Ultimate Team but every game mode. The AI constantly forces players into specific patterns, and it’s painfully obvious, especially during key moments like cup finals or promotion matches. Even lower-ranked teams are being used in matches to avoid this scripting, but it’s still infuriating. I should never feel like I have to game the system just to play fairly.
On top of that, the physics engine is broken, with mismatched motion speeds between teams, and bugs like messy headers and constant uniform malfunctions. It’s a shame because I’ve been playing FIFA for 20 years, and I’ve never been so disappointed in a release.
Finally, the game-breaking mechanics make it impossible to enjoy what could have been a great football simulator. Crosses, finesse shots, and header goals are so exploitable that the game feels less like football and more like a glitchy mess. I had high hopes for FIFA 24, but I think it’s a waste of money. You should really think twice about buying it. Until EA fixes these major problems, if they ever do, I think you should stick with older versions like FIFA 22.
I want EA to stop ignoring their fans and start working on making the game better. Without that change, FIFA will become a brand known for taking advantage of players instead of bringing people the joy of football. I really wouldn’t mind if EA lost the FIFA license for good if things don’t change.
